The Coastal Explorers Field School is the flagship program of the Oceans Learning Partnership (OLP), a collaborative network of over 20 partner organizations. Our shared goal is to integrate ocean science and career education into the K-12 school system in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada’s most easterly province. OLP’s Board of Directors includes representatives from our partner organizations as well as external advisors and experts in a variety of related fields.
Experiential Learning is the cornerstone of OLP’s educational programming. Since 2012 we have been developing innovative new educational programming that combines hands-on field experiences that are linked to Grades 4-12 curriculum outcomes.
An exciting new slate of hands-on programming is being developed and field-tested with our partner network, from summer internships for high school students to field placements for pre-service teachers. The prototype for an online mentoring platform linking high school classes with industry professionals is also in development.
OLP’s educational programming has been made possible by the generous support of our founding sponsor, ExxonMobil Canada, with capital and program R&D investments provided by the Hebron Project and Hibernia Management and Development Company Ltd, the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
